Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! Come to any pool night at Medway Park Sports Centre. Arrive about 15 minutes early for your first visit so we can get you signed in and introduce you to an instructor. You don’t need to bring anything — we have all the equipment. Just bring your swimwear and a towel.
There are two parts to the cost: a BSAC national membership fee and an NWK club subscription. The BSAC fee covers your insurance, qualification recognition, and access to the national organisation. Visit the BSAC website for current national membership rates. Club subscription rates are available on request. Your first pool visit is completely free, so come along and try it out before making any commitment.
No — the club has masks, snorkels, fins, wetsuits, BCDs, regulators, and cylinders that you can borrow while you’re training. Most members gradually buy their own kit over time, starting with a mask and fins (it’s nicer to have your own mask that fits well). There’s no rush, and other members are always happy to give advice on what to buy.
Absolutely! BSAC recognises qualifications from other training agencies. When you join, we can advise you on the equivalent BSAC qualification based on your existing certifications and experience. Many of our members started with PADI or SSI and chose to continue their training through BSAC’s club-based system. You’ll find the club environment and buddy diving approach a great complement to any previous training.
BSAC training is available from age 12 (with parental consent). There is no upper age limit. We have members across a wide range of ages and fitness levels. If you have any health concerns, BSAC has a medical self-declaration process that will guide you.
A basic level of water confidence is helpful, but you don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer. BSAC requires a 200-metre swim and a basic water skills assessment as part of the Ocean Diver course, but our instructors can help you build up to that. If you can manage a few lengths of the pool, you’ll be fine to get started.
The club runs regular open water dives throughout the year, weather permitting. In the spring and summer months (April to October), we typically dive most weekends — a mix of shore dives around the Kent and Sussex coast, and boat dives further afield. We also run an annual overseas trip for some warm-water diving. Pool sessions run year-round for training and skills practice.

Still not sure?

Come to a pool night and see for yourself. No commitment, no pressure — just a warm welcome and a chance to try something amazing.
